There are many reasons why it is important to store salt properly. In today's modern industrial economies, salt is used in different ways by various industries. Are your food containers safe?

These days, our food is touching plastic in almost every phase, from production, transportation to consumption. Not all plastic containers and products are created equal. Recent research shows reasons for concern for potential health risks from Bisphenol A (BPA), an organic compound that is used to make polycarbonate polymers and epoxy resins, as well as other materials used to make plastic.

In 2010, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a report which warned of possible hazards to fetuses, infants and young children as a result of exposure to (BPA).

According to National Geographic, The Green Guide, for repeated use, the safest plastic for storing food is made from low-density polyethylene (LDPE Plastic #4), high-density polyethylene (HDPE plastic #2) and polypropylene (PP Plastic #5).

Although there is a great movement throughout the United States to recycle plastic, there are increasing concerns that contaminants from post-consumer materials and other materials that are not regulated for food-contact may end up in the final product.

Transport /Freight

Unifuse designed these poly box trucks with a particularly calculated taper which enables the nesting of units when empty. This helps drastically reduce the cost of freight to transport the box trucks when they are empty.

This is particularly useful if you want your logo, symbols (such as recycling) or certain instructions visible on the box trucks. Molded-In decals are particularly interesting as the label itself is made of polyethylene and we burn it into the wall of the box truck. This label becomes part of the wall and cannot be scratched off or removed.

Vibrational Molding – The Unifuse Difference

All plastic molding processes are not created equal.  Some processes work fine for lightweight toys and others for thin gauge products.  But, if you need strong, stress-free plastic products, resistant to sunlight, chemicals and corrosion, heavy-duty durability that will not crack, dent, warp, or rust Unifuse has the right solution for you. The Unifuse process lends itself to molding all types of custom plastic products and various sizes – from small plastic drums to large containers. Whether you need to store or transport materials that are wet, dry, powdered, liquids, or solids we have the solution for you.

Our patented Vibrational Molding Process (VIM) uses a combination of heat and vibration to create a sequential particle buildup of plastic over a single plastic mold.  This creates a one-piece, seamless product.  The vibration process fuses plastic powder tightly together.  This close fusion produces plastic products that are far more durable than plastic made from other manufacturing processes.

Vibrational molding is the newest of four main types of plastic molding processes.  The others are injection, thermoform and rotational.  Vibrational molding, first patented in 1984, was granted a second patent in 2003 after improvements were made, and named Unifuse.

What Makes Unifuse Different From Other Types of Plastic Molding?

Injection molding, first used to manufacture products such as collar stays and hair combs, requires quick cooling in order for the part to be removed from the mold.  This creates stress in the plastic.  Another disadvantage of injection molding is that the cost of equipment is high, which makes short production runs expensive. Its best use is for making high volumes of the same product.

Thermoforming uses extracted plastic sheeting.  Thermoforming reheats the plastic sheets and creates a vacuum that sucks the soft material into a wood or metal mold.  It is ideally used for thin gauge products, and all parts must have a draft or taper (otherwise the plastic, stretched during the molding process, will tear.)  Plastic molded products of any substantial depth are ill-suited to thermoforming because the thermoforming process creates stresses and weaknesses that may result in cracks. 

Rotational molding distributes material by rotation.  This causes a wiping action while material adheres to the mold surface.  The rotation or tumbling of the material creates molds of uniform thickness and with little stress.

Vibrational molding does not require that the plastic be melted before it is molded.  When plastic is melted, the plastic usually does not cool evenly.  This creates stress.  The patented vibrational molding process provides a plastic structure of uniform thickness without degrading polymer strength.  This makes products resistant to cracking, chipping, denting and other forms of damage.

Vibration molding is, in a sense, an evolution of rotational molding.

These are the key distinctions between Unifuse vibration molding and rotation molding:

Energy:  In rotation molding, parts are made inside of a female mold, which is placed in an oven.  The mold is rotated 360 degrees in two directions both during the heating and cooling process. In vibration molding, heat is applied through the mold, using about one-eighth the energy used in rotational molding.

Time:  Vibration molding heats material to just above the melting point so it takes less time to heat and cool than rotation molding.

Cost:  Rotational molds cost $15,000 or more.  The cost of vibration molds starts at $3000 and generally runs about 20 percent of the cost of a rotation mold.

Insertions:  Unifuse vibrational molds can be opened during the melting phase to allow for insertions. The thin molds can be changed by cutting out a section of the mold and welding in a new section.  This makes Unifuse molding ideal for small production runs, including prototypes and for products that may require changes or insertions.

Custom Parts:  Low-cost tooling also makes Unifuse molding ideal for producing custom parts such as wire drums, fuel rail trays, molded containers to fit specific needs and molded containers to fit very heavy parts.

Post-Production Modifications.  Parts made with the Unifuse process can be easily tweaked after the part has been removed from the mold. Components can be added manually by heating them with a hand torch so that the plastic fuses together.  When the part cools completely, the add-on becomes a part of the entire unit.  Studs, for example, can be added to the bottom of a medical waste cart so that the cart can be attached to a bottom dolly.  Other post-production modification possibilities include cutting hand holes after the part cools as well as adding hinges, metal handles and Velcro closures.  Stenciling and burn-in PE decals can also be added in such a way that they become part of the plastic

Environmentally Friendly Plastic 

Unifuse vibrational molding is environmentally friendly.  Little waste is produced and any excess is recycled.  Unifuse vibrational molding products are made with FDA-compliant resin and pigment, making all products non-toxic.

Products

Since 1983, Unifuse vibrational molding has been producing heavy-duty polyethylene bins, totes, carts, tubs, dollies, floor trucks and conveyable containers. . Considerations

Although vibrational molding provides many advantages over injection, thermoforming and rotational molding processes, it does have limitations:

1. No double walls.  The vibrational molding process does not allow for double walls.  Walls can be layered to create different thicknesses, but each part made through vibrational molding will have only one layered wall.
2. No fill-ins.  The walls of articles made through vibrational molding are solid, but parts cannot be filled in.

Unless your product requires double walls or fill-ins, Unifuse should be your first choice. The Unifuse process is cost-efficient and environmentally friendly and produces parts that are structurally superior and easier to modify than other plastic molding processes.
